Sorry if you have had any problem accessing this website recently – I made some changes to the layout yesterday, which have resulted in difficulties with access at my end but I’m not sure whether this is affecting visits by other people or whether it’s just my PC. Talking of my PC, I have certainly had some problems installing some new software (to transfer video to the PC) and that’s why I have been unable to provide the offshore radio clips that I promised you last week but I’m working on it!
In the meantime, it was my intention to fill the video spots on this page with clips of “The Beach Old Boys”! whose surviving members have got together and are touring again in 2012 to celebrate their 50th anniversary. However, because of the technical difficulties, I ended up with three clips the same. Anyway, I will try and rectify that as well!
Of course, the first video is of Etta James who passed away last Friday at the age of 73.
UPDATE - TUESDAY THE 17TH JANUARY 2012
I was sorry to hear about the recent death of Bob Holness who I remember most from his breakfast show on LBC during the 1970’s and early 1980’s (not from the TV quiz show Blockbusters). I have written more about that in issue 211, which is in the early stage of preparation.
By the way, I failed to mention, previously, that the first DJ shown in the 1960’s black and white video clip below (which will be removed/replaced shortly) is John Aston (aka Stewart) who worked on various offshore stations, under different names and was actually one of the guests at the Radio Day last November and appeared in the video clip from that event that I showed on here before Christmas but which has since been removed. The other DJ’s shown in the clip are Ed Stewart and Mike Lennox.
Talking of videos, following the acquisition of some new hardware and software I’m hoping to have some more rare clips of offshore radio past to show you on this web page shortly but, before I can do that, I’m just in the process of sorting out a technical problem, so that I can bring you sound as well as pictures!
Check back again soon if you want to see these.
